News

On July 17-21, the International Terminology Summer School (TSS) was held in the Italian city of Naples. TSS has a history of 30 years and is held every year in different countries, hosted by different universities.

TSS is the leading and largest summer school for specialists working in the field of terminology and for students studying this field. Every year, the school has 100-150 participants from many countries and almost all continents.

TSS is conducted by "Termnet", the international organization of terminologists. The one-week summer school is practice-oriented and introduces a comprehensive overview of methods, principles, and software tools for terminology work. The course is taught by some of the most renowned terminology experts in the world.

Terminology is taught in almost all European universities both as a separate field and as part of graduate courses in translation studies. Terminology is a growing profession in Georgia as well, as it is an important part of the 10-year State Language Strategy. This fact determined the development of a new MA program at Ilia State University "Lexicography, Terminology and Modern Technologies", which was successfully accredited in 2023.

By the decision of the Board of "Termnet", in 2024 Ilia State University will host the International Terminology Summer School. The co-organizer of the event is the Translation Bureau of International Agreements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
