ONLINE ILIAUNI – ROOM WITHOUT WALLS
By using the online portal within Ilia State University project online Iliauni (http://online.iliauni.edu.ge/) any individual can complete an online course in the field in which they are interested.
Educational resources are available in the sections as follows:
Courses – complete courses in different fields are available in this section together with tests. Accordingly, after completion of the course, users will be able to assess their own knowledge. Along with video lectures, digital versions of lectures are also available. Questions to lecturers can also be posed.
Lectures – individual lectures (e.g., lectures by invited lecturers at Iliaui) or video recordings of lectures are placed in the section.
Tutorials – study tutorials center upon gaining specific practical knowledge, e.g., how to compile a book, how to process voice in a computer or prune a tree, etc.
Online Television – short films, in which Georgian scientists elaborate upon their professional choices are available in this sections.
Online Training Courses – Study materials, e.g., online tests, are placed here.
Within the framework of the project, on the basis of one of the most important courses Introduction to Modern Reasoning at Iliauni, a number of short films were made, and they are available here. The study material will prove useful for any person or student having completed the course.
Instead of using conspectuses to revise the material, students are now capable of doing the same through video films within the project.
Today different means for exchanging information are available throughout the world, and students are, in fact, able to operate their own media channel in the internet.
Distance learning is known for multiple big and small universities throughout the world and this trend is gaining increasing popularity with time. A great number of prestigious universities offer online courses to the listeners and grant diplomas after completion of a course. State-of-art technologies are widely applied to create such courses. Harvard University project website, for example, says that it offers courses in more than 300 fields. According to one of the surveys, 91 per cent of two-year colleges in the USA has online courses.
