About the program
The program was developed in 2011 and was reaccredited in 2023. The program is updated at the beginning of each academic year for further improvement of the learning process.
Aim of the program
It aims to prepare a competitive specialist in French philology, who:
- has mastered the French language as a means of communication;
- has basic knowledge of the structure of the French language and its systemic features;
- has mastered French-language literature, culture and history;
- while working on French-language texts and discourses, he/she can analyze different types of texts and discourses of different genres, considering cultural, social and historical contexts.
In addition, the program focuses on the development of such transferable skills as effective oral and written communication in Georgian and English, critical analysis and substantiated reasoning.
Study areas
The bachelor program in French Studies covers two main directions in the field of philology - linguistics and literary studies.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the program, the graduate:
- can name and describe the main morphological, syntactic, lexical and stylistic categories of the modern French language;
- can list the main periods of the history of French literature, describe the plots / themes and main trends of the selected works of important representatives;
- can describe the most important events of French culture and history;
- is able to critically analyze and interpret different types of French texts and different genres of discourse;
- while working on different types of texts and discourses of different genres, successfully uses elements of linguistic analysis and/or literary methods considering the historical, social and cultural context;
- has developed the French language competence at B2 level and is able to understand, interpret and translate sectoral and literary texts and discourses of appropriate complexity;
- can communicate orally and in writing with specialists and non-specialists on sectoral issues and provide substantiated reasoning;
- based on the competences acquired in the learning process, he/she can independently manage his/her own study process, search for information and process it.

Lecture; seminar; analysis/synthesis; practical method; methods/elements of e-learning; demonstration method; discussions/debates; brainstorming; group work.

A course graduate is entitled to continue studies at the master’s level.

- Free Component: General Module- 60 credits

- Introduction to Contemporary Thought I, II - 12 credits
- Academic Techniques- 6 credits
- Statistics - 6 credits
- English Courses- 24 credits
- Introductory Courses - 12 credits
Major Course - 120 Credits:
- Compulsory courses of the French Studies program with the code - HUMFRGEN - 72 credits
- Compulsory-elective courses of the French Studies program with the code - HUMFR – no less than 42 credits, among them Practical Language Courses
- Elective couses of French Studies program with the code- HUMFR – max. 6 credits
Minor program/Free Component- 60 credits
Students can obtain the 6 credits determined for elective courses in full or in part from the block of HUMFR compulsory-elective courses.
