On March 27-29, 2023  the European Foundation for Management Development - EFMD hosted the members of the CBHE Project  "Strengthening the quality and relevance of the third mission in Georgian universities" (SQUARE), co-financed by ERASMUS+,

First day of the visit was fully devoted to meetings with the official representatives of the European Union and the European Commission.

Georgian participants met representatives from such organizations as: European Foundation for Management Development EFMD; European University Association EUA; European Education and Culture Executive Agency EACEA; European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education ENQA.

The representatives of the European Organizations discussed following topics: the role of the third mission in the development of the quality of higher education; University and innovation ecosystems; EUA Autonomy Scorecard; European cooperation for modernization of higher education; ENQA activities and quality assurance of the third mission.

Within the framework of the visit, the Georgian participants visited the Catholic University of Leuven, where they got to know the representatives of the research and development department and doctoral schools of the host institution.

The visit also included meetings with representatives of the University of Antwerp, where the agenda was devoted to study programs, areas of sustainable development and global leadership skills.

The project aims to improve the importance and quality of the third mission in Georgian higher education institutions with the involvement of top management and structural units. Provide methodologies and guidelines for higher education institutions to plan, implement and evaluate their third mission. Important is the fact that the ultimate goal of the project is to establish a regulatory document on the basis of which the role of the third mission is defined at the national level as a mandatory component of accreditation-authorization.
