Focus Group Highlights Digital Skills, Inclusivity, and Sustainability in Georgian Healthcare

Discussions

In June 2024, Ilia State University hosted a focus group with representatives from governmental organizations, NGOs, and research centers to discuss the critical roles of digital skills, inclusivity, and sustainability in Georgia's healthcare sector. The discussion revealed a unanimous agreement on the importance of digital proficiency, particularly in data analysis, for improving patient care and operational efficiency. However, participants noted a significant gap in the current educational programs, which fail to adequately prepare students and recent graduates with these essential skills. Inclusivity and sustainability were also highlighted as key areas needing urgent attention. Participants stressed the need for curricular reforms to incorporate inclusivity and sustainability comprehensively, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to address these critical aspects in their professional practice.

Overall, the focus group emphasized the necessity for enhanced collaboration between educational institutions, healthcare providers, and regulatory bodies to align educational outcomes with practical requirements. By addressing these gaps, the Georgian healthcare system can better equip its professionals to meet modern demands and ensure comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare delivery.

The focus group was conducted within the project funded under the Erasmus + CBHE funding scheme: Redefining Higher Education on a digital context and mainstreaming a common inclusive and green structure based on EU best practices and policy recommendations.
