Curriculum Reform for Promoting Civic Education and Democratic Principles in Israel and in Georgia(CURE)

On Thursday July 22, 2021, Ms. Naama Levi from the National ERASMUS+ Office of Israel organized a Project Impact and Sustainability Assessment Meeting for the ERASMUS+ project of CURE: Curriculum Reform for Promoting Civic Education and Democratic Principles in Israel and in Georgia. This project was coordinated by Gordon Academic College of Education in Israel and united 17 different institutions in 6 countries: Israel, Georgia, Austria, Estonia, Poland and the United Kingdom. Periodically the European Commission EACEA in Brussels monitors the long-term impact of the programs that they have funded to assess how successful the project has been in sustaining its outcomes and results. At the meeting, 15 members of CURE participated, representing 9 different institutions from 4 different countries.

The main objectives of the CURE project, coordinated by Dr. Rhonda Sofer from Gordon College od Education, aimed at developing innovative curriculum and methods that promote civic and social engagement and democratic principles in Israel and in Georgia. Professor Yecheskel Taler participated at this meeting highlighting how the objectives of CURE have become integrated into Gordon College’s many programs as well as into its institutional vision. On the other hand, Prof. Shorena Maglakelidze - institutional coordinator of the Georgian CURE team from Ilia State University (Tbilisi Georgia), and Ms. Ketevan Darakhvelidze, Head of the Development office were present at this meeting and contributed greatly to the discussions.

Within the frames of the project 5 courses were developed, 9 Centers of Social and Civic Engagement were created, and hundreds of the academic faculty in our participating institutes were trained in new methods to promote the values and ideals of the program. The project ran from October 15, 2016-May 30, 2020.
