Naum Kleiman

NaumKleiman - historian of cinema, Russian film critic, former director of the Moscow State Central Cinema Museum. He was born in 1937. Initially, he studied mathematics at the Kyrgyz State University, but in 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Cinema Studies in Moscow and began work in one of the departments of "Gosfilmofond". As a director and consultant, NaumKleiman participated in restoration of Eisenstein film, "Bezhin Meadow". Kleiman is a world renowned researcher of Eisenstein's creative works and gives lectures and special course in many universities since 1988, not only on Eisenstein's work, but history of world cinema as well. In 1993, he was elected to the European Film Academy and was presented with its award. He is the winner of many awards, including the Order of Arts and Literature (France, 1992), the Goethe Medal (Germany, 1995), as well as - the Order of the Rising Sun for deepening the Russian-Japanese cultural ties (Japan, 2005).
He was a member of the jury at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival in 1993 and a member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 1991.
