Svetlana Berikashvili’s participation in the International Medieval Congress, Leeds/UK

From 30th to 4th July Svetlana Berikashvili participated in the International Medieval Congress (IMC) held in Leeds, UK. The Congress is Europe’s largest forum for medievalists from over 60 countries. It includes scientific program as well as public performances, excursions, book fairs etc. The programme and the information about other events is available online at IMC official web-site: https://www.imc.leeds.ac.uk/.

Svetlana Berikashvili delivered her presentation in the session Mining Georgian Manuscripts and Chronicles. The papers in this session showed ways in which Georgian manuscript collections are used for scholarly purposes. A topic of Svetlana’s paper was Subject Marking in Medieval Georgian based on the data from the corpus of Georgian Chronicles, a collection of Georgian manuscripts available online at Ilia State University web-site: http://corpora.iliauni.edu.ge/qats/index.php. Svetlana talked about how grammatical subjects were differentiated in medieval Georgian and analysed differences depicted in Medieval Georgian in comparison with Modern Georgian. A vivid discussion followed after the presentation.

Svetlana Berikashvili also met with Prof. Irina Lobzhanidze, who also participated in the Congress with
the paper related to her project at Oxford University. This meeting gave an opportunity to discuss the
compilation of the corpus related to Svetlana’s research project and to define future steps.
