Iliauni Professor, Vice-Rector Giorgi Gvalia was awarded the status of Jean Monnet Chair


Jean Monnet Chair aims at promoting EU values & excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide. It will be established at Ilia State University. Professor Giorgi Gvalia, vice-rector at Ilia State University will lead the Jean Monnet Chair.

The main deliverables of the project include preparation of a new semester length course on EU’s international relations and publication of the book in Georgian language on ``EU as a Global Actor``. New course and the book will significantly contribute to the further development of European Studies at Iliauni and partner Georgian universities.

Other specific activities planned within the project such as students’ annual conferences and poster competitions, public lectures and presentations, roundtable discussions with the representatives of civil society, media and policy-makers, series of public lectures at high schools will contribute to the objectives of broadening debates and deepening understanding around EU related topics among different segments of Georgian society.

The project and its activities will reach the beneficiaries and priority target groups, including, students and professors of European Studies, International Relations, Political Science and other disciplines at Iliauni and partner Georgian universities, professional community/experts, representatives of media, public servants and high school teachers and students.
