Prospecting of Water Tourism Potential for the High Mountain Lakes of Samtskhe-Javakheti Region

U.S. Embassy Tbilisi annually announces an open competition for Democracy Commission Small Grants Program (DemCom).  The United States initiated it in 1994 as a flexible mechanism to enable embassies to support local democratic initiatives in the countries of Central, Eastern Europe, and the post-Soviet States.

In 2020, the project of Ilia State University: " Prospecting of Water Tourism Potential for the High Mountain Lakes of Samtskhe-Javakheti Region" received funding.

The project aims at prospecting the lakes of Samtskhe-Javakheti region, assessing their potential value for practicing recreational and extended range diving and disseminating discovered data to potential users. The data will be represented as underwater bathymetric maps, water characteristics like underwater visibility, temperature range and also information regarding accessibility and existing infrastructure for various prospected dive sites.
