About the Program

The program was developed in 2011 and re-accredited in 2023. It can be updated at the beginning of each academic year for further improvement and development. The program, which is meant to include the discussion and study of the major events in the  history of Georgia and the world, offers to acquire comprehensive knowledge of the basic methods and approaches of historical research, as well as general knowledge about world civilizations. The program enables students to critically evaluate events and historical views in the local (national) as well as world historcal and cultural context.

Aims of the Program

It aims to prepare a competitive specialist who has:

  •  knowledge of history of Georgia and the world;
  •  the ability to critically evaluate historical events, analyze and interpret them in order to reconstruct and renew the understanding of the past;
  • the ability to do basic research, including working with primary and secondary sources, to identify significant questions and answer them using  relevant methods;
  • the ability to effectively communicate his/her arguments and opinions in writing and orally adhering to the principles of academic integrity and applying  modern technologies.

Also,  the program focuses on the development of transferable skills needed for further education, e.g. individual and group work skills; critical analysis and argumentative reasoning; effective oral and written communication through applying  contemporary technologies and  adhering to principles of academic integrity.

Major Fields of  Study

BA program in History covers history of Georgia and the world.

Learning Outcomes   

Upon completion of the program, the graduate can:

  1. demonstrate broad knowledge of Georgia and its separate eras, development stages of world history and civilizations;
  2. identify, evaluate and discuss different perspectives and interpretations of the past,  considering the context of adjacent disciplines (e.g.  historical, political, cultural, social, economic and others);
  3. compare the peoples and cultures of different eras with a comparative approach when studying history;
  4. define a research question and answer it using relevant theories, methods and approaches in accordance with predetermined guidelines, in order to study the current historiographical problem/issue;
  5. find primary and/or secondary historical sources for the purpose of reconstructing the past and perform their critical analysis and synthesis; 
  6. clearly and consistently convey his/her opinions and arguments orally and in writing with specialist and non-specialist audience, using modern technologies and adhering to the principles of  academic integrity;
  7. adhere to ethical norms, principles of justice, impartiality and tolerance when evaluating historical events; respect  different values, ideas, beliefs and cultures of various countries and nations in  particular historical eras as part of world values;
  8. work individually and in a group, find and use different resources in the learning process to develop his/her own knowledge and skills.

Learning Methods

Lecture, seminar, individual and group projects, analysis and synthesis, practical method, discussion / debate, demonstration method, method of working on primary sources (written and non-written); elements of e-learning, brainstorming, group work.
