About International Doctoral School:
International Doctoral School represents a cross-faculty, support unit at Ilia State University offering structured international doctoral programs of high academic standards based on individual (cotutelle) agreements between partner institutions and students. The program gives participating doctoral students the opportunity of receiving co-supervision from Georgian and foreign professors and doctoral degrees from each of the two universities upon successful completion of their doctoral projects. There are currently two major projects in the school:
- The Lehmann-Haupt International Doctoral Program (LHIDP) is implemented in collaboration with the Georg-August-University of Göttingen and covering the following disciplines: Philology, History, Political Sciences, Religious and Cultural Studies, Development Economics, Ecology, Chemical Biology, Physics and Cosmology. The project is implemented with the support of the Volkswagen Foundation and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
- The Project Democracy, Human Rights, and Religion is implemented in collaboration with Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and offers graduates the opportunity to pursue doctoral research in Practical Philosophy. The project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
The goal of the International Doctoral School is to promote double/joint international degree programs and support doctoral students in achieving academic excellence by offering doctoral skills training opportunities in methodological, subject-specific courses and transferable skills training. The International Doctoral School also provides doctoral students with the opportunity to engage in networking and community activities, as well as counseling services, guiding them towards internationally competitive doctoral degrees.
