Development of teaching of practical skills Joint work of three universities

News

On November 12-13, as part of the USAID Rule of Law Program-supported action on Developing a Georgian Legal Culture through Expansion of Practical Skills for Future Lawyers, nine professors from Ilia, Batumi and Telavi State Universities met to improve components of practical skills teaching. The professors discussed the syllabi of four mandatory Bachelor-level courses – obligatory law, tort law, contract law, and corporate law – in an effort to incorporate practical skills training as a part of each course.

The course materials and lecture topics in the syllabi of the four courses were updated, and the professors agreed on visiting lectures when a professor from Batumi or Telavi University will teach a lecture at Ilia University and vice-versa.

The professors also discussed launching joint academic contests, including an essay contest for Bachelor degree students, an academic poster competition, and moot court competitions. All competitions will be for only students of these three universities and will be announced in the coming days. As part of the competitions, students will undergo training in academic writing, which will positively impact their research and writing skills. Academic personnel will also support increased communication between students at the different universities to support the creation of inter-university student groups.
