A Meeting with Niloufar Talebi

Events

A meeting with Niloufar Talebi will be held on May 10th, at 18:00, in the A306 auditorium of Ilia State University. “Persian Rite of Spring: The Story of Norouz” (2010) created by Niloufar Talebi will be presented at the meeting.

The author, Niloufar Talebi, is a multi-award-winning translator, interdisciplinary artist and producer. She is the author of the hybrid memoir: “Self-Portrait in Bloom” (2019) and its companion opera, “Abraham in Flames” (2019, composer Aleksandra Vrebalov) and Berkeley's speech in Tedx format. It was all inspired by the life and work of the Iranian poet, Ahmad Shamlou. Niloufar Talebi is the editor and translator of the bilingual anthology “Belonging: New Poetry by Iranians Around the World” (2008), as well as the producer of the theatrical performance of these poems, "Icarus/Rise" (2007) and "Fire Angels" (2011), the song cycle reflecting on the decade since 9/11, at Carnegie Hall. She also wrote librettos for the Stanford Live and Kennedy Center. She worked on “Persian Rite of Spring: The Story of Norouz” (2010) on behalf of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has received numerous awards and grants from PEN America, the International Center for Writing and Translation, the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Creative Writing foundation. Niloufar Talebi is engaged in scientific activities in Georgia within the framework of the Fulbright program in 2021-2022.
