SWISS PROFESSORS TO RUN WORKSHOPS ON THE TOPIC EUROPE’S HISTORY AND FUTURE

On May 23, 15:00, at Ilia State University Book House Ligamus, with the support of the programme “Academic Swiss Caucasus Network,” a workshop will be held on the topic “The History and Feature of Europe.” The workshop will be led by Professors of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), Christian Giordano and Siegfried Weichlein.

Regarding the Speakers

Christian Giordano, Swiss Anthropologist and Sociologist, is a full professor of the University of Fribourg and Director of Institute of Social Anthropology. Since 2002, he has presided over Interfaculty Institute for Central and East Europe. In the list of his numerous works are as follows:  “World Outlook, Political Activities and Economy in the Process of Post-Communist Transitions (I-II) (1993 წ.), “Anthropology and Ethics” (1994), “Interethnic Relations and Politics of Multiculturalism: Between Southeast Europe and South-East Asia (2005), etc.  
Siegfried Weichlein has been a professor of Modern History of European Switzerland at Fribourg University since 2006; since 2014, he has held a post of full professor of the Department of Historical Sciences of the same university. His research areas are as follows: the History of Germany and Europe, the History of Political Culture, Nationalism of Regionalism, Cultural History of Cold War, etc. His research projects include: “Political Iconography of Federalism (2012-2014), “Mission of History, Globalization and Transfer of Knowledge” (2015-2018), “The Cold War as Political Imagination” (2014-2017). From his publications, especially noteworthy is „Nationalbewegungen und Nationalismus in Europa“.
