Public Lecture by Professor Peter Kabachnik
Events
The College of Staten Island Professor Peter Kabachnik will deliver a public lecture on the topic:
"Questions of Memory in Post-Soviet Space: The Multiple Meanings of Stalin in Georgia".
The following topics will be discussed during the lecture: What is the contemporary impact of memory politics across post-Soviet space? While there is a growing debate on the politics of memory, it is necessary to highlight the importance of how memory is spatialized and represented in the landscape. The various meanings and contestations over memory and symbols are often manifested in public space. Therefore, how places of memory are negotiated in everyday life becomes integral for a better understanding of these debates. This talk will explore a variety of questions, issues, and repercussions contending with memories and perspectives of Stalin and the Soviet era.
The public lecture will take place on December 17, 18:00, room A101 (Chavchavadze Ave. 32, first floor).
Attendance is free.
