The Human Rights Department of the School of Law of Ilia State University invites you to a public discussion with the candidates for the position of the Public Defender in cooperation with the Union Safari and with the support of the USAID Rule of Law Program on November 8, at 19:00.

Discussion Topics

The hearing of candidates for the position of the Public Defender in the Human Rights Protection Committee of the Parliament started on October 25. 3 of the 19 candidates registered in the Parliament were nominated by non-governmental organizations. 52 organizations participated in their selection process.

The current Public Defender Nino Lomjaria's term of office expires on December 8, 2022. Parliament should vote for a new Public Defender by December 1. The audience will have the opportunity to hear the candidates' opinions on the current processes, as well as their future visions and goals at the discussion.

The 3 most active (activity is calculated by the number of signatures on the attendance sheet) students attending the events organized by the Human Rights Department will be identified at the end of the semester and they will be awarded by the Dean of the School of Law.
