Presentation of Ilia State University Center for Lexicography and Language Technologies

Events

Ilia State University will hold a presentation of the Center for Lexicography and Language Technologies in a hybrid format on the Georgian Language Day, April 13.

The attending audience will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the implemented technological projects and published books and textbooks in the development of lexicography as a field in 2021-2022.

The Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani prize in the field of lexicography will be established during the event, the concept of which will be presented by the Rector of Ilia State University, Professor Nino Doborjginidze.

The event can be attended both physically and online. To attend the event, it’s required to pre-register no later than April 11, 2022.

16:00 - 16:05 - Opening

16:05 - 16:15 - Center for Lexicography and Language Technologies: Goals and Objectives, Vision and Mission (Professor Tinatin Margalitadze)

16:15 - 16:30 - Teaching Lexicography at Ilia State University (Professor Tinatin Margalitadze)

  • BA: Lecture course “Introduction to Lexicography” for the students of philological fields; Presentation of the textbook “Introduction to Lexicography”;
  • MA: Master's program “Lexicography, Terminology and Modern Technologies”. The connection between the master's program and the European master's program in Lexicography (EMLex). Full membership of the EMLex consortium;
  • Doctorate: Doctoral module “Electronic Lexicography”.

16:30 - 16:40 – The establishment of Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani prize in the field of lexicography. Presentation of the prize concept (Professor Nino Doborjginidze, Rector of Ilia State University)

16:40 - 16:50 - The establishment of an international conference (in collaboration with Batumi Shota Rustaveli University) “Lexicography in the 21st Century” in the field of lexicography (Professor Nino Doborjginidze, Rector of Ilia State University)

16:50 - 17:00 - The presentation of the project “English-Georgian, Georgian-English machine translation”. “English-Georgian Parallel Corps” and its development perspectives (researcher Vakhtang Elerdashvili, Professor Tinatin Margalitadze)

17:00 - 17:20 - Presentation of books

  • “Unknown Pages of English-Georgian Lexicography” (Salome Chighladze, Ilia State University doctoral student)
  • “Glossary of Foreign Words and Their Georgian Matches” (Tinatin Margalitadze, Professor)

17:20 - 17:30 - The introduction of a professional dictionary management system in the work of the Center for Lexicography and Linguistic Technologies: DPS (Dictionary Production System) of IDM Group, presentation (Maia Davlianidze, Editor of the Center for Lexicography and Language Technologies)

17:30 - 17:40 - Competition “Create a Georgian term”. Presentation of the competition concept and website (Sandro Asatiani, Head of Unilab, Cyber Laboratory of Ilia State University)

17:40 - 17:50 - Presentation of the bilingual dictionary cycle project: “Italian-Georgian Dictionary” (Giorgi Meladze, Editor-in-Chief of the Center for Lexicography and Language Technologies; Sofiko Gojaeva, Researcher of the Center)

17:50 - 18:00 - Mobile application of the “English-Georgian Learning Dictionary”. The publication of a new online version of the dictionary on the international site of online dictionaries bab.la. (Professor Tinatin Margalitadze)
