On October 12-19, Ilia State University will host the international conference entitled "Environmental Change and Human Response during the Quaternary in the Mediterranean Region"... The conference is the first scientific meeting of the IGCP Project #610 that will be held under the auspices of UNESCO.

ISU organizes the conference in collaboration with Avalon Institute of Applied Science (Canada), Odessa State University, International Association for Seas and Oceans and Istanbul Technical University.

The conference aims to revise the geological, archaeological, environmental and anthropological data with the purpose of determining the human response and adaptation to the environmental changes through the Quaternary period in the Mediterranean Sea "Corridor". The information is extremely important for understanding of the ongoing environmental changes and evaluating the further development perspectives of the modern civilization.

The conference aims to deepen the geological, archaeological and anthropological connections between the field scientists. More than 70 scientists from 15 countries are participating in the conference. The conference will be held in Georgia for the first time in the region. The upcoming activities will be organized in Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Turkey and be completed in Israel in 2017. The main sessions of the conference will be held at Ilia State University (Tbilisi) on October 13-15, 2013.  The visiting scientific - practical seminars with the participation of the speakers of the conference will be held in the different regions of Georgia.
