Autism is known as a developmental disability in the 21st century. It affects the normal brain function, development of a child’s verbal communication and social interaction skills. In case of Autism, public communication can be regarded as one of the most important challenges. Precisely, the utilization of hippotherapy and contact with animals (playing with horses, and etc.) can be a great treatment intervention for autistic children.

According to the world experience, hippotherapy (equine therapy) is considered as the best approved method of the rehabilitation of children with autism spectrum disorders.

Within the framework of the project “My Colorful World”, Ilia State University organized the hippotherapy camp for 3-10 years old children of ISU Autism Center.  Also, the children (15 beneficiaries) consuming the services offered by ISU Autism Center took part in the project.

The hippotherapy program was carried out in the small town Tsodoreti, at the horse stable territory of ISU. The program covered 10 working days, from 11:00 to 16:00.  The Psychotherapists, high qualified trainers and specialists, volunteer students and handlers were involved in this project.

The project aims to provide the integration of autistic children into the society by utilizing the horse camps.
