“Everything about Sugar” - Popular Science Lecture with Experiments for Students

Professor Ketevan Kupatadze of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine of Ilia State University will hold a popular science lecture “Everything about Sugar” with experiments on February 24, at 16:00.

At the lecture, students will have the opportunity to learn about sugar, its characteristics, as well as engage in interesting laboratory experiments using sugar.

The speaker will talk about the following topics:

  • What did Avicenna think about sugar?
  • When did European kings eat sugar?
  • How did sugar spread?
  • Who were the sugar zombies?
  • What is sugar from a chemical point of view, what are its characteristics? What happens to it in our bodies?
  • How to recognize hidden sugar in product labels?
  • What do sugar and honey have in common and how are they different?
  • What are the safest sweets?
  • What does sugar have to do in common with salt, and what does the “taste of salt” mean?
