Workshop on Research Design

The ASCN Programme is announcing the organisation of its first methodology workshop in Georgia. Considering the needs in research methodology expressed by various research institutions in Georgia, the first methodology workshop will be dedicated to "Research Design". It will focus on basic issues of empirical research designs in social sciences.
The workshop will take place from 10 to 12 May 2010 (12:00) in the premises of the Ilia State University in Tbilisi. The participation in the workshop is free of charge.
Trainers
The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Daniel Bochsler and Prof. Stefanie Walter.
Daniel Bochsler is a doctor in political sciences from the University of Geneva. Presently he is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Center for the Study of Imperfections in Democracies, Central European University, Budapest (Hungary).
Stefanie Walter is Junior Professor for International and Comparative Political Economy at the Department of Political Science at the University of Heidelberg (Germany)
Eligibility
• Participants must be (junior) scholars in the areas of social sciences and affiliated to an institution of higher education;
• Participants must be nationals of Georgia living in Georgia;
• Participants must have a good level of English.

Participants who intend to submit a research proposal in the call organised by ASCN (http://www.ascn.ch/en/research/call-for-georgia.html) are strongly encouraged to participate in the workshop. In order to participate in the workshop, they are required to submit together with their application form a one to two-page abstract of the project proposal they want to submit. This will help the trainers adapt the course to the participants' needs. Applicants submitting this abstract will therefore have priority in the selection for the workshop.

Application Deadline
Scholars wishing to participate in the workshop are invited to apply until 27 April 2010. The application form is to be downloaded from www.ascn.ch.
Number of participants
In order to guarantee the quality of the workshop, a limited number of 30 participants maximum will be selected.
