Pascal Award - Unique Chance for Young Scientists

Pascal Award was founded to encourage young scientists' involvement in research process; the prize money for the award is 3000 Lari. The award was initiated by Ilia State University Rector, based on Academic Council # 98 minutes of March 28 and Council of Representatives' minutes # 2 of March 31. 

Blaise Pascal contributed greatly not only to the field of natural science but also to the knowledge about humans. Additionally, Pascal is famous for reaching huge scientific success in his youth. This is why Ilia State University chose his name for the award.

Young scientist, affiliated with Ilia State University, whose important article was published in international publication, may receive the Award. One candidate will receive the award as many times, as he/she presents article that satisfies the Award criteria.

Number of the Award recipients is not limited.

Our Partner Basis Bank will provide the 3000 Lari award for the first 10 recipients
University will award the rest of the recipients

Application for the Pascal Award must contain the following:

  • Statement addressed to the Rector; the applicant must note his/her desire to have his/her publication evaluated for the award
  • Document that confirms candidate's affiliation with Ilia State University ( reference,  contract, or other document) 
  • Copy of  ID
  • Copy of the scientific publication (article)  

 Additional conditions:

  • Scientists that have not yet reached 36 may apply for Pascal Award. 
  • Article must be published in international peer-reviewed journals that are included in the Thomson Reuters database; Authors of the articles that have a high Eigenfactor Score* will receive the Award. Humanitarian Sciences articles are exception; to qualify for the Award, they must just be published in a theme journal that is included in the Thomson Reuters database.  

* Journal’s Eigenfactor Score signifies journal’s importance for the scientific world. It is computed based on the Thomson’s Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Relevant field journal list will be ranged according to the Eigenfactor Score, from high to low. The Award will be granted to the articles published in journals that are included in 60% of the list.

  • Ilia State University must be candidate's institutional affiliation name; candidate may be author or co-author of the article. Co-author of the candidate's article must be a professor, researcher or PhD student of one of the Western European or USA Universities.  Publications that are based on collaborations with only Georgian universities or research centers will not be eligible for the Award. 
  • PhD student candidate may present an article that is published according to the PHD program requirements. It should be noted that the student's supervisor or co-supervisor cannot be named as the article's co-author. 
  •  Article for eligible evaluation should be published no earlier than January 1, 2014. 

 
Application Deadline

Iliauni Chancellery receives Pascal Award applications during the whole year.  

Applicants that wish to receive the Award in April of this year should apply no later than April 22.

• Applicants that wish to receive the Award in June of this tear should apply by May 1.

• Applicants that wish to receive to receive the Award in December should apply by November 1.
