‘HeidelbergCement" announces open competition "The Quarry Life Award" with the purpose of promoting the biodiversity!

Following the success of "The Quarry Life Award 2012", the Company "HeidelbergCement" announces the 2ndinternational scientific and educational competition with participation of 21 countries worldwide.As a leading company in the global cement and aggregate market, "HeidelbergCement" provides the management of biodiversity during mining and afterward. In more than 1000 quarries worldwide, the Company strives to promote the exceptional local flora and fauna. The competition "The Quarry Life Award" aims to deepen knowledge about the biological value of quarries and contribute to the protection of biodiversity. It should be noted that the first competition "The Quarry Life Award" has taken a valuable contribution to the extraordinary scientific achievements as well as implementation of the innovative and educational projects  to improve biodiversity.  Project proposal (maximum 3 pages) submission deadline:Students, high school students, researchers, scientists, experts, non-governmental organizations from 21 countries around the world have the opportunity to submit proposals until March 1, 2014.Prizes for winners at the national level in each country:I place - 5000 EUR

II place - 3000 EUR
III place - 1500 EUR

On international level, the prize in the mentioned three categories is 10 000 EUR for each project and author of the best project will be awarded 30 000 EUR.National Jury Members are:

  • Khatuna Gogaladze - Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia;
  • Professor David Tarkhnishivili - Director of the Institute of Ecology;
  • Giorgi Lebanidze - Representative of German International Cooperation (GIZ);
  • Tamaz Gamkrelidze - WWF Representative;
  • Irakli Makharoblidze -Sales and Marketing Director at "HeidelbergCement".
