


Which Is the Cheapest Supermarket in Tbilisi?
The Iliauni Business Review presented the 2nd research analysis of Tbilisi’s supermarkets at Ilia State University. The research aimed at studying the products’ prices in the supermarkets located in Tbilisi and conducting their comparative analysis. As a result, the cheapest and the most expensive supermarkets were identified.
The research covered network and huge supermarkets including Goodwill, Ioli-Gastronomi, Populi, Big-Ben, Zemeli, Ibisi, Continentali and Express Group.
The research examined twenty different types of products in the consumer basket. The market price of the products was defined in accordance with their prices on the counter. The prices were presented in GEL, according to the circumstance of 20-23th January, 2012.
In accordance with the data analysis, the Iliauni Business Review released the cheapest and the most expensive supermarkets. In the category of the cheapest supermarkets, “Goodwill” took the 1st, Express Group- the 2nd, and Populi –the 3rd places. In the field of the most expensive supermarkets, Zemeli took the 1st, Continentali the 2nd and Big-Ben the 3rd places.
The Iliauni Business Review states that if the results of the research be generalized, the circumstance will be the following: if a family having average incomes buys the researched products in the cheapest supermarkets during a month, getting the same products in the most expensive supermarkets will be raised in price by 33.3 per cents. If we take into consideration that such family needs to buy sixty different kinds of products in a month, the total sum of extra paid money will be tripled.
