Visit of Dr. Phil., Mr. Giorgi Koridze of University of Tübingen, at Ilia State University

On June 11-19, 2014, Dr. Phil. Giorgi Koridze of University of Tübingen visited Ilia State University. His visit was organized by S. Tsereteli Institute for Philosophy. Within the framework of the MA program in Philosophy Dr. Phil. Giorgi Koridze delivered intensive course on The Issues and Debates on Intentionality and Universals.

During the cycles of the lectures, Dr. Phil. Giorgi Koridze talked about the development of the theory of Intentionality and Universals; debates around these issues in the Medieval Philosophy; also, how this theory evolved and re-established in modern Analytic Philosophy. There were discussed ancient philosophers ideas on these problems, different interpretations of the theory of Intentionality by several schools of thought in Middle Ages, as well as, transformation of these theories by modern authors.  The theories of Aristotle, Edmund Husserl, Thomas Aquinas, Brentano were reviewed at the meetings.

Within the framework of his visit, Dr. Phil. Giorgi Koridze also delivered public lecture on the topic Discourse between the Sources of Cognition or Rebirth of Europe from High Middle Ages. There was discussed idea of knowledge in society; how the living space advanced along with the discourse, what role universities played in developing discourse and how its [discourse] principles spread from universities to modern democratic states. Also Dr. Phil. Giorgi Koridze gave examples of how the knowledge extended in Europe and on the other hand, in Georgia throughout the time. The lecture was held on June 19 and was aimed for a wide audience.
