Unique Exhibition at the “Ligamus”

On November 14, 2010 the book-store at Ilia State University, “Ligamus” hosted the opening of an exhibition. It presented the works of one of the most famous French photo artist of the 19th century Jean Raoul.

Photos will be displayed at “Ligamus” for one month, and are copies of the works from the collection of the Royal Museum of the Golesthan Palace in Iran. Twenty-eight photos that were taken in Georgia were awarded numerous international prizes. This collection was discovered by the councellor of the Embassy of Georgia in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Nikoloz Nakhutsrishvili. He later contacted the Institute of Oriental Studies at Ilia State University. After negotiations with the Iranian contacts and support from the “Open Society Georgia Foundation” it became possible to produce high quality copies of the above-mentioned photos. The same exhibition has already been on display in Iran as a result of an agreement between the Embassy of Georgia and the Royal Museum of Golesthan Palace. The collection resulted in interest from the French side too; they plan to organize an exhibition in France soon.
