Third Place for Iliauni
The Universiada was held in May-June this year with the initiative of Georgian University Sports. Approximately 50 institutes were fighting for the prizes in the different types of sports and 30 of them got the medals. In the common group counting with the 47 medals (15 gold, 16 silver, 16 bronze) first place was taken by STU, TSU was the second with 25 medals (9, 9, 7) and the third place was given to Ilia State University's team with 20 medals (7, 4, 9). On the highest step of the pedestal stood: the Iliauni team of rugby sevens, Akaki Motsonelidze (free-style wrestling, 66 kilos), Lasha Lolashvili (Greece-Roman wrestling, 65), Genadi Gogishvili (B/R 84), Zaza Simonishvili (Georgian wrestling, 65), Giorgi Kobaidze (Georgian wrestling 90), Guga Kibordzalidze (Georgian wrestling +90); Silver medals were given to Mikheil Medua (B/R 66), Giorgi Meliqishvili (Free-style wrestling, 84), Guga Kibordzalidze (Sambo +100) and Giorgi Meliqishvili (Archery) and third places were given to Giorgi Smarganashvili (swimming), Luka Jashi (Sambo 68), Giorgi Akhalkatsishvili (Judo 60), Giorgi Kobaidze (Jude 90), Guga Kibordzalidze (Judo +100), Levan Lobzhanidze (B/R 74), Beka Rokva (B/R 96), Davit Davituri (Georgian wrestling, 75). The team of the street basketball also took the third place.
