The Team of Law School in Frankfurt
On March 18-22 Ilia State University the School of Law’s team was participating in imitated Investment Arbitration Moot Court tournament which is annually held in Frankfurt Germany. The main organizer and host of the event was the Law School of Goethe University.
The participation on the first stage included presenting obligatory written memorials (suit and counter appeal) to the organizers. In creating the written memorials international agreements, works of the leading specialists in the investment law and court precedents were used. From world’s different universities written application forms were presented and on the bases of these documents 36 teams were selected for final stage.
Ilia State University team (Mikheil Daushvili, David Lagidze, Irina Agapishvili) was among those teams who would be performing in front of the world’s famous arbiters in the role of claimants and defenders. During abovementioned imitated courts participants had to deliver speech and defend their positions in front of the arbiters. The arbiters were asking questions about the case as well as from the point of view of legal evaluation to estimate participant’s detailed knowledge of case circumstances and the ability to make right legal qualification and defend the interests of the assurance.
It has to be mentioned that participation in the abovementioned imitated court process will help a great deal students of Ilia State University the School of Law in acquiring the abilities of advocacy and planning of primary position and arguments in the right way. During the imitated process arbiters were stressing participant’s ability to prove the rightness of her/his position at most convincingly, using facts and bringing corresponding arguments. At the same time, after finishing of each session arbiters were summarizing the process and evaluating participants individually, which was helping participant groups to analyze their mistakes after each round and to appear better at the next process.
In this format Iliauni team participated in three rounds of imitated court and among them it met with student teams from Deli, Singapore and Stockholm – one of the strongest team – Universities. The winner of the tournament became the team of Stockholm University.
Our university got the certificate for successful participation and also acquired important experience that will help us to establish our special place at the international level and to bring the name of the university abroad.
