


Testing of Sea and Lake Research Equipment
On January 27 at the territory of Turtle Lake the Ilia State University organized a testing of the equipment for lake and sea complex research. Dimitri Shashkin, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Gigi Tevzadze, Rector of the Ilia State University and the representatives of the Institute of Earth Sciences attended the testing.
The Institute of Earth Science purchased 2000-DSS Combined Side Scan Sonar & Sub-bottom Profiling System with the financial support of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The equipment is designed for conducting geophysical, geological, ecological and hydrological researches.
Ilia State University received the equipment in spring 2010. Its testing was carried out near the territories of the Black Sea and Tbilisi Sea. The territories of Ports of Poti and Khulevi were investigated through the mentioned equipment and the investigation of the lakes of the Javakheti Lowlands started as well.
The mentioned equipments will be used in the complex geographical, archeological, geophysical and geological researches. Students and researchers of the Ilia State University will be actively involved in the research process. The final results of the researches will be integrated into a unified database.
