Russia-Georgia Relations as Seen from Europe
"The position of the Europe and America regarding Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration is complicated. Europe is unable to take decision regarding Georgia's integration", said Professor Katlijn Malfliet from Leuven University on a public lecture at the Ilia State University.
Professor Katlijn Malfliet is a Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Leuven University and a member of research group on European Policy and International Relations. In her presentation, professor Katlijn Malfliet discussed Georgia-Russia relationships and post-Soviet realities from European policy perspective. She said that Georgia's chances to join Euro-Atlantic family are very low, as Europe needs Russia. Russia's political value for Europe is higher than that of Georgia. The reality is that Europe is more interested in regulating relationship with Russia than Georgia's integration to Euro-Atlantic Alliance.
The presentation was followed by a dialogue. Professor Katlijn Malfliet had one and the same answer to the questions of Georgian experts, political scientists and students - European Union does not even think about enlargement.
