Prosecutor's Discretionary Authority

On April 26, 27 and 28 in Stephandtsminda Ilia State University Law School and students organized three day training on the following topic - "Prosecutor's Discretionary Authority". The training was lead by Ketevan Chomakhashvili, Londa Toloraia and Natia Mezvrishvili. Participants of the summer school were selected on the basis of test and interview. In high competition environment the best students of third and fourth year of Ilia State University Law School were selected.

On the first day of the training students were given information about essence, positive and negative sides of Prosecutor's Discretionary Authority and about principles of using this authority, and also about the difference between Prosecutor's discretionary authority and plea.

On the second day invited lecturers explained to students the essence and procedures of juvenile mediation, alternative mechanisms of criminal law prosecution, principles of juvenile diversion, also what type of alternative mechanisms exist in the case of juvenile criminal law prosecution. Students were very interested with this information, how all this is realized in practice and what issues, details are taken into consideration by prosecutors while using their discretionary authority.

On the third day students were divided into teams and discussed the cases and presented their teams. Participant students were given certificates for successfully completing the training.
