New Translations Published
By the end of 2010 Ilia State University Press published Georgian translations of "Dandelion Wine" by Ray Bradbury, "Blood Sport" by Dick Francis and "The Color of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. The presentation of the new translations was held on 27 December 2010 in the Bookstore Ligamus.
Translation of the books was undertaken by Tamar Rekk-Kotrikadze, Ketevan Kantaria and Nino Meunargia, while Nodar Manchkhashvili, Lali Kadagidze and Andro Buachidze edited the novels.
On the presentation of the new books Gigi Tevzadze, Rector of the Ilia State University spoke about the reasons why these particular novels were chosen for publication in Georgian. "'The Color of Magic' by Terry Pratchett is a book for children and for grown-ups alike. The author is currently the second most-read writer in the UK, and the seventh in the world. This is probably one of the reasons why we published his novel in Georgian. We have chosen those authors who are not widely translated to the Georgian language and who work in the genres that the Georgian literature lacks of".
"Dandelion Wine" is written in 1957 by a famous American writer Ray Bradbury. The novel radically differs from the science fiction stories so typical to Bradbury's style.
Events in the novel "Blood Sport" by Dick Francis center around horse racing; former jockey himself, Francis knows well this sport and offers his readers crime novels written in light, intriguing style. Francis is the only three-time recipient of the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award for Best Novel.
Terry Pratchett is known as a creator of a new genre, the so-called comic fantasy. His novels are sold in 36 languages worldwide. Now Georgian has become yet another, 37th language to translate his books.
New translations are already on sale in the bookstore Ligamus.
