Megrelian Linguistic Analysis
On November 17, Ilia State University hosted a presentation of “Megrelian Linguistic Analysis” jointly prepared by Ilia State University Center of Linguistic Research and the Research Group of Kartvelian Languages.
The working on the project was started in 2006 by the Research Group of Kartvelian Languages, headed by Prof. Guram Kartozia, at Ilia State University. The project was successfully implemented with support of the National Scientific Foundation and consequently, 700-page monograph was published in 2010.
The monograph presents an analysis of the published Megrelian texts as well as materials collected through the linguistic expeditions. The evaluations made by the outstanding Georgian and foreign scientists (Otar Kajaia, Izabella Kobalava, Zurab Chumburidze, V. Boeder, Heinz Fähnrich, Kevin J. Tuite, Manana Tandashvili, Jost Gippert) are appended to the monograph.
The collection of thematically diverse materials throughout the expeditions will be continued within the framework of the second project titled “Electronic Corpus of Megrelian Texts” and be finished at the end of the current year. This is a systematic base created in accordance with modern international standards and designed to be inserted in the linguistic corpus encompassing a wide range of opportunities.
