Launch of the Iliauni Summer Schools

On August 27, 2010 two summer schools of the Ilia State University: “Georgian Studies” and “South Caucasus: Culture, Society, Policy” were officially launched at the Open Air Museum of Ethnography of Georgia.

The Opening was attended by the higher management teams from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Ilia State University and the Ambassador of German Federation in Georgia Mr. Ortwig Hennig.

It is Ilia State University’s second year hosting the summer school program “Go East” which is organized for German students. Funding for the project “South Caucasus: Culture, Society, Policy” was provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It brought 20 German students to Georgia and two experts: Uwe Halbach and Jörg Stadelbauer. Topics to be discussed during their stay in Georgia included: ecology, culture, ethnography, society and policy in the South Caucasus.

This year Ilia State University initiated one more summer school for the students from all over the world. Project “Georgian Studies”, which is jointly financed by the Ilia State University and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, will invite 10 international and 10 local students to learn more about society, policy and culture of modern Georgia. The goal of the school is to raise international awareness on cultural development, processes and events taking place in Georgia.
