ISU Visit at Svaneti Historical & Ethnographic Museum

On September 28, Svaneti Historical and Ethnographic Museum in Mestia celebrated the 100th anniversary of the famous researcher-ethnographer Michael Chartolani and the 40th anniversary of the launching of the Complex Scientific Expedition of Svaneti.

The celebration session was attended by Professor Paata Bukhrashvili, Head of Visual Anthropology Lab at ISU, Nino Didebashvili and Tamar Tsartsidze, students of MA program in Medieval Studies.

The participants talked about the life of Michael Chartolani and discussed the importance of the research works of the Svaneti Complex Scientific Expedition in 1972-90. The expedition took a valuable contribution to the accounting/describing, studying and surviving of Svaneti antiquities.

The photo and film materials were screened at the meeting.

In addition, the MA students of ISU visited to the exhibition of Svaneti Historical and Ethnographic Museum, the antiquities of XI-XIV centuries and churches in Seti, Laghami, Lenjeri and Latali.
