ISU Champion of South Caucasus in Athletics

International athletics tournament was held in renewed Tbilisi Athletic Palace. Georgians, Armenians, Azeri and Latvians competed for the South Caucasus Cup.  Ilia State University student, 23-year-old Zurab Gogochkuri won the golden medal in high jump (2 m 11 sm). Gogochkuri has been repeatedly winning Georgian championships. He has also been successful internationally: his record (2 m 28 sm) won championship in Bulgaria, in 2012. However, he was 2 sm short for London Olympics. Shortly before the South Caucasus championship, he became champion of Yaroslavl District (2 m 16 sm). Currently, he is training for 2016 Olympics license, under supervision of world champion, Vladimir Ribakov. Gogochkuri also plans to compete in the Championship of Europe. It will be held in Tbilisi, June 22-23, 2014.
