


Integration of Non Native Georgian Speakers
On December 1, 2010 bookstore Ligamus hosted a presentation of a program prepared especially for non-native Georgian speaker students by the Ilia State University based on Georgian Law on Higher Education.
Introduction of new rules almost a year ago were meant to provide increased access to the higher education for Armenian and Azeri students. According to the “Georgian Law on Higher Education” (chapter 7, paragraph 47) non-native Georgian speakers are allowed to take an exam of basic skills in their native language in order to get enrolled in a one-year Georgian language program. In case of successful completion of the program students will have a chance to be accepted to BA programs.
This year the University welcomed the first group of students accepted within the frames of this scheme. Venera Manasyan, Vusaleh Japharova, Ramil Aslanov, Aram Sukhasyan, Nina Marikyan and Sarvan Kurban-Ogly will study Georgian language at the Ilia State University to continue their studies at BA level next year. University professors (Eka Shaverdashvili, Tinatin Kighuradze, Kutsna Amirejibi, Irina Lobzhanidze, Ivlita Lobzhanidze, Nino Doborjginidze, Shukhia Apridondze, Medea Rogava and David Kiziria) prepared a one-year language study program, which should enable Armenian and Azeri speaking students develop their Georgian language skills and pursue their higher education.
Every student will have a personal consultant, who will help her to become familiar with university procedures and establish contact with the peers throughout the academic year.
