Iliauni for the Georgian Society
On February 15, Ilia State University organized an event entitled “Ilia State University for the Georgian Society” in the ISU new buildings. The university presented its Annual Report 2010. A presentation of the College of Engineering and a future development plan of the university were also part of the event.
The development of the university is based on totally new and modern principle: a digitalization of the formal studying processes – switching lectures and seminars to online mode.
The 20th century clearly showed that informal meetings of students, professors and researchers are ever more productive from educational and scientific standpoints. Therefore, future universities must develop within a new infrastructure: along with libraries, labs, sports halls, etc, large and small auditoriums will be replaced by recreational spaces and informal meeting places, thus stimulating free exchange of opinion and development of new ideas. Future universities can be described metaphorically as the knowledge café. Just as in the Middle Ages Civil Society emerged from guilds and a public sphere moved to literary salons, tea shops and coffee houses, in the 21st century, a society of knowledge will emerge from knowledge cafés.
