


Iliauni Expedition in Svaneti
This year, Ilia State University has launched a research project entitled “Ethnographic Dictionary of Georgia (Database)”.
The project foresees the preparation of the portal within the university network space which will incorporate text, photo, audio and graphic materials on the ethnographic life of Georgia, adding up the relevant scientific equipments.
The materials will be represented in accordance with words, alphabetical order and search system and be permanently updated.
The project will facilitate students to obtain knowledge in the fields of historical disciplines at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.
As well, the project provides the involvement of students in the research works with the purpose of describing and confirming the artifacts of existence. For this purpose, the cycle of short–term expeditions in different parts of Georgia will be organized. The Bachelors, Masters and PhDs are being involved in the research works as well.
On September 21-28, 2011, within the framework of the project, the expedition team including Prof. Paata Bukhrashvili, Mariam Omiadze (PhD) and Lika Liparteliani (BA student) visited Svaneti, the regions of Lentekhi and Mestia.
The members of the expedition described and confirmed the cultural peculiarities, artifacts and life of the Georgian nation. The unique fabric samples were sent to the laboratory for their further investigation. Professor Paata Bukhrashvili delivered a public lecture on “One Georgian Iconographic Motive”.
