Emeritus Title Awarding Evening

Ilia State University hosted the evening dedicated to the awarding of the title of Emeritus to Professor Irakli Eliava.

Mr. Irakli Eliava is a Doctor of Biology, Member-Correspondent of Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Author of four monographs, one dictionary, two books and 160 scientific works.

He is a laureate of Melikishvili Prize. During the years, he served as a head and then a dean of the Faculty of Zoology at the Department of Biology of Tbilisi State University. Also, he was a head of the Department of Zoology-Physiology at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani State University. He chaired the Institute of Zoology of Georgian National Academy of Sciences for 16 years.

Ilia State University is the first institution of higher education in Georgia which has implemented the initiative of the Education Law and has awarded the title of Emeritus to all full professors.

According to the legislation of Georgia, Emeritus is an academic title awarded to distinguished scientists or public figures for their significant merits.
