The joint maritime archaeological project of Sweden and Georgia financed by Sweden Institute took start in 2009. Consequently, Ilia State University and Södertörn University signed the memorandum of cooperation. Accordingly, the activities through 2011 in Georgia as well as in Sweden are planned. 

Maritime Archaeological Research Institute MARIS (www.sh.se/maris) will establish the cooperative links with Ilia State University. Within the framework of the cooperation, it is planned to organize joint seminars/conferences and exchange programs for students, scientists and researchers as well as to share academic knowledge and to bring out the publications of joint researches/ activities.
