“Bridging Two Continents” –Antonio Sagona

On June 21, Ilia State University hosted a public lecture by Antonio (Tony) Sagona on the topic:” Bridging two continents: Archeological excavations at Samtavro”. 

The renewed archeological excavations (2008-2010) of the important monuments in Shida Kartli carried out under the joint project of Georgian National Museum and Melbourne University was discussed at the meeting.

Antonio (Tony) Sagona is a professor of Archaeology at the University of Melbourne. His research interests have centered on ancient Turkey and the Caucasus. He is an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and a member of the Society of Antiquaries, London. His latest book, co-authored with Paul Zimansky, is “Ancient Turkey, A Survey from the Earliest Settlements to the End of the Iron Age”.
