Public lecture by Professor Dominic Lieven of Cambridge University

On November 10, at 13:00, Professor Dominic Lieven, a professor at Cambridge University and the best researcher of Russian history, within the framework of a series of modern history seminars organized by the Master’s Program in Modern Georgian History of Ilia State University, will hold a public lecture in a remote format, using Platform Zoom, on the topic “the essence of empires, the peculiarities of their development and their final fate”. Professor Lieven will also speak about his book “In the Shadow of the Gods: The Emperor in World History (2022)”, published in 2022.

About the lecturer

Dominic Lieven is a professor at the University of Cambridge and one of the best researchers of Russian history. A number of studies belong to him, including; Russia and the Origins of the First World War (1983), The Aristocracy in Europe (1992), Empire: The Russian Empire and its Rivals (2003), Russia Against Napoleon: The Battle for Europe, 1807 to 1814 (2009), The End of Tsarist Russia: The March to World War I and Revolution, Penguin Random House (2015), In the Shadow of the Gods: The Emperor in World History (2022).”
