From July 27 to 31, 2026, Ilia State University hosted, for the third time, the annual week dedicated to global climate challenges.

The Global Green Challenger weeks are held within the framework of an educational project funded by the Korean government, in which Iliauni participates together with its strategic partner Inha University and four other Korean universities. Professors and students from Inha University, Ulsan University, Chosun University, and Duksung Women’s University took part in the GGC 2026 held in Georgia.

As part of the Global Green Challenger 2026 week, lectures and workshops were held in Tbilisi and in Stepantsminda, at Iliauni’s Alpine Ecology Research Station. Students attended a presentation on the causes and consequences of climate change using Georgia as a case study, and in Korean-Georgian mixed working groups, developed ideas and projects in response to global climate challenges, which they presented on the final day during a hackathon.

Based on the decision of the jury composed of Korean and Georgian professors, the two winning teams of the hackathon were announced:

First place: Jin Seok OH (University of Ulsan) and Marta Machitadze (Ilia State University)

Second place: Hyeonu SHIN (Inha University) and Tinatin Salukvadze (Ilia State University)
