Ilia State University School of Medicine Establishes Digi-CHange Lab
News
Ilia State University School of Medicine has established the Digi-CHange Lab within the Erasmus+ CBHE project Digi-CHange – Digital Transformation and Curriculum Development for Healthcare Teams. The new laboratory aims to strengthen the integration of digital health technologies into medical education, providing students and academic staff with opportunities for practical training, innovative teaching, and research.
The laboratory is equipped with modern digital diagnostic and imaging technologies acquired through the project, including the MoticFlexScan 6 digital microscope slide scanner and the Riester RCS-100 digital dermatoscope.
The MoticFlexScan 6, equipped with a six-slide scanning system, enables high-resolution digitization of histological specimens using brightfield and fluorescence imaging. Digital slides can be viewed, analyzed, stored, and shared electronically, facilitating interactive teaching in histology and pathology. The technology also creates opportunities for developing digital teaching collections, remote microscopy sessions, collaborative case discussions, and research involving digital pathology and medical image analysis.
The Riester RCS-100 digital dermatoscope enables detailed visualization and digital documentation of skin lesions, supporting practical training in dermatology and clinical examination. Its imaging capabilities allow students to study dermatoscopic features, discuss clinical cases, and develop skills in interpreting dermatological images. The equipment can also support educational activities involving teledermatology and remote consultations.
Together, these technologies provide a foundation for integrating digital diagnostics, telemedicine, and image-based learning into the medical curriculum. They also offer opportunities for interdisciplinary research and the exploration of artificial intelligence applications in medical image analysis, with appropriate ethical oversight and data protection.
The establishment of the Digi-CHange Lab represents another step toward advancing medical education at Ilia State University, connecting theoretical knowledge with practical competencies and preparing future healthcare professionals to work in increasingly technology-driven healthcare environments.
The Digi-CHange project is co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.
