Public lecture “Land of Nazarlebi”

Paata Bukhrashvili, professor of Ilia State University, will deliver a public lecture: “Land of Nazarlebi” - fragments from the ancient history of the Georgian nation at the book house “Ligamus” on December 16, at 18:00.

About the lecture

The lecture is about the unique cult monument of the Late Bronze-Early Iron Age (XII-X centuries BC), which was recently discovered as a result of the joint archaeological work of the Ilia State University and the University of Halle (Germany) on the Shirak Plain in Dedoplistskaro Municipality, and its place in the system of archaeological cultures of the Caucasus of this period.

The latest results of the technological and laboratory study of the archaeological material coming from this monument and their importance in the study of the history of the ancient population of the Caucasus will become known to the general public.

About the Speaker

Paata Bukhrashvili majored in ethnography at the Faculty of History of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, graduated in 1983 and in 1989 completed his post-graduate studies in the field of ethnology at the same university. In 1989, he defended his dissertation on the

topic: “The Dwelling in the Ethnic Mode of Life”. He cooperated with the Georgian National Academy of Science at various times (Archaeological Research Center, 1983-2006), Technical University of Georgia (Department of Georgian History, 1989-1996), Tbilisi State

University (Department of Ethnology, 1990-2006); Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani State Pedagogical University (Department of the History of the Peoples of the Caucasus, 1994-2006), in 2006-2010 he was an associate professor and dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies of Ilia State University. Full professor of Ilia State University since 2010. He leads the Laboratory of Visual Anthropology and Local History of the Faculty of Arts and Science of the same university.
