Position of a Director at the Language Center

Ilia State University announces open competition for the position of a Director of the Language Center. Position is to be filled from November 16, 2010.

Language Center of the Ilia State University offers courses in fourteen modern European and Oriental languages. Center serves university students and members of a wider society and also offers courses of simultaneous translation (English-Georgian and German-Georgian languages). In addition Center operates international exam centers that are eligible to issue international certificates of German and Spanish languages.

Language Center is administered by a director and a fifty-person staff of teachers. Study classes are equipped with corresponding audio and video equipment.

Director of the Center is accountable for its daily operations and reports to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She will have to cooperate with the dean’s office and head of the administration in order to manage and carry out goals of the Center in accordance with the overall strategic goals of the College, its ethos and policy.

Requires qualifications:

  •    Higher education in the field of philology or methodology and didactics of teaching of languages: MA or corresponding academic degree;
  •    Proven knowledge of at least one foreign language (C1 Level, international certificate has to be provided);
  •    Minimum of a three year experience of teaching (proved by a certificate);
  •    Theoretical knowledge of teaching methods of foreign languages;
  •    Successful experience of fundraising;
  •    Knowledge of the Georgian language on the level of native speaker (additional knowledge of English language is a plus);
  •    Skills to use information technologies;
  •    Experience of team management and ability to work in a team;
  •    Leadership and management skills, interpersonal and motivational skills, enthusiastic worker, strategic planer;
  •    Ability to communicate in written and oral forms;
  •    Ability to cooperate with different types of people and organizations;
  •    Ability to find a compromise, manage a conflict and demonstrate diplomacy skills.



In order to be considered for the competition candidates have to submit the following documents:


1. Application form;
2. Copy of an ID or a passport;
3. Two photos;
4. CV;
5. Copy of a diploma proving academic degree;
6. Certificate proving knowledge of foreign language;
7. Certificate proving working experience.

Application forms can be submitted starting from November 16, 2010 and until December 27, 2010 at the chancellery of the university during the working days, 10am-6pm.
