Call for Research Proposals

The Academic Swiss Caucasus Net is a five-year program which aims to develop social sciences and humanities in the South Caucasus. The program is financed by GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG and is being implemented by the Interfaculty Institute of Central and Eastern Europe (IICEE) at the University of Fribourg. The ASCN Programme launches a call for project proposals and is open to researchers resident in Georgia. The proposals must fit to the following topics:
1. Democratization and Transformation
Democratization, local governance, judicial reform, social inclusion, civil society, societal values, reforms, institution-building etc.
2. Social Change: Structures and Representations
Rural/urban divide, human capital, migration and remittances, social change and its representation in media and social discourse, etc.
Grant:
The budget made available per project will be 40'000 Swiss Francs (CHF) over two years, with a maximum of 20'000 CHF per year. Projects must have duration of 2 years. Initial funding is provided for 12 months.

The first page of the application form has to be signed and scanned. All documents (application form, CVs, annexes, etc.) have to be submitted as one PDF file to the ASCN Management at info@ascn.ch and jan.kreuels@unifr.ch with the following email subject line "ASCN Call- Georgia 2012".

Research projects are evaluated by an independent and international Scientific Board.
The following criteria will be applied to assess the submissions for research projects:
- scientific quality (especially elaboration of research question, methods and research plan);
- relevance and link to the umbrella topic;
- feasibility of the research project;
- scientific competence of the applicants related to the submitted project;
- involvement of younger researchers;
- level of fluency in English
Selection Deadlines
- 2 May 2012: Deadline to submit research proposals
- Mid-July 2012: Final decision of the Scientific Board
- 1 October 2012: Start of approved research projects
