International success of the Ilia State University student team in the field of neurotechnology

On the initiative of the Ilia State University Neuroscience Alumni Network and with the support of the Muskhelishvili Institute, Ilia State University hosted the g.tec medical engineering “Neurotechnology Spring School 2026” and the BR41N.IO Global Designers’ Hackathon, where the university once again demonstrated its significance in the fields of neuroscience and neurotechnology both nationally and internationally.
For the second consecutive year, the Ilia State University team has won in one of the most competitive categories of the BR41N.IO Global Designers’ Hackathon — Game Development using BCI Technology. This category involves creating computer games using BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) technology, where users control processes through brain activity.
In 2026, the winning team was represented by Ilia State University students: Mariam Molodinashvili, Tsotne Macharashvili, and Levan Mukhadze.
The hackathon brought together 151 teams from different countries worldwide.
In this category, leading universities were represented, including: TH Aschaffenburg (DE), University of Jyväskylä (FIN), Savannah College of Art and Design (USA), Simon Fraser University (CA), HTW Saar (DE), Aalborg University (DK), Tecnológico de Monterrey – ITESM (MX), and West University of Timișoara (RO). Notably, Ilia State University was the only representative from Georgia. ????????
The achieved result reflects the high quality of neuroscience programs at Ilia State University.
Within the framework of the Spring School, the Ilia state university Neuroscience Alumni Network provided targeted educational sessions, practical training, and on-site mentorship, which significantly supported participating teams in their preparation for the hackathon.
This success once again highlights the importance of developing neuroscience education at Ilia State University and underscores the necessity of continuing support for Master’s and PhD programs in this field in order to sustain progress and preserve the achievements of the academic community and its partners.
